Announcements
Subject: LC/MS workshop
The mass spectrometry lab along with the ACS local section are
organizing a workshop in Liquid Chromatography-Mass
Spectrometry. All researcher of Iowa State University are
encouraged to attend. If you are interested please check with
the mass spec lab or e-mail kamel.
Subject: Student training on the triple quadrupole mass spectrometer.
The mass spectrometry laboratory is announcing to all students and
researchers that the Finnigan TSQ700 will be available for Electron
Impact EI and Chemical Ionization CI routine use. Solids probe and gas
chromatography are the primary inlet system to be included in the
training. Direct infusion, Liquid Chromatography, Capillary Zone
Electrophoresis, and Capillary Isoelectric Focusing, with Electrospray
Mass Spectrometry requests will be submitted to the mass spec personnel.
The interested individuals are invited to sign up (check with me) for a
series of training sessions. These sessions are outlined as follows:
90 minutes class. The class will cover the following topics:
--->How mass Spec works?
--->Description of the instrument hardware
--->Principle of EI, CI, and ESI ionization techniques
--->Sample inlet systems: solids, liquids, and gases.
2 to 3 hours "one to one" software data processing
Each student will spend one entire day with me to
learn how to use the machine. Special attention will be given to the student's
applications.
After these training sessions, students will be allowed to use the
TSQ700 only between 9am-6pm, Monday through Wednesday and Friday. On
Thursdays the instrument will be configured in the ESI mode. When a student
shows some confidence and becomes familiar with using the instrument, he
or she will be allowed to use the machine anytime, including weekends.
Subject: Chemical Ionization on the Magnum GC/MS
The Magnum GC/MS instrument has been set to perform also positive chemical
ionization CI.
Chemical ionization is especially useful in the case of confirming the mass
spectral results obtained by electron impact technique, and also in the
case where no molecular ion information is obtained from the EI mode.
If you have interest in using the Magnum in the CI mode please contact kamel:
